Misinformation
Angelo’s Aggregate Materials has provided information to the community.
It feels like they tell us what we want to hear, but never seem to put it in writing. When their promises directly contradict their landfill application, it’s hard to have confidence in their ability to manage the facility.
- Angelo’s says their landfill is an “organic composting and recycling center.” Yet, this can’t be found anywhere in their original application submitted to the Department of Environmental Protection.
- How will Angelo’s dispose of leachate? It should go to a designated wastewater facility. Yet, Pasco doesn’t have such a facility approved for that use.
- At community meetings, Angelo’s lists themselves as “Angelo’s Recycled Materials.” Funny, since all their official applications list them as “Angelo’s Aggregate Materials.” No other mention of “Angelo’s Recycled Materials” can be found.
- Angelo’s continually wants us to believe that their liner – a 6/100-inch thick piece of material – would be enough to keep the leachate from leaving the site. What they fail to mention is that some manufacturers only provide a 12-to-18-month warranty.
- Angelo’s has claimed that property around the facility won’t lose value. Yet, their own studies confirm that landfills cause land values to drop. This drop has already begun. At first, Angelo’s originally offered $34,000/acre to secure land to build their landfill. Now they only pay $23,500. That’s a 30 percent decline, and the landfill is not even here yet!
- Angelo’s has been honest about one thing: They have had absolutely no experience operating a Class 1 landfill before.
